Elizabeth Olsen, Mary-Kate and Ashley’s little sister arrived to the premiere of Ruth and Alex at the 41st Deauville American Film Festival looking angelic in a white short sleeve gown from Calvin Klein Collection. Before the Golden Lion was even awarded at the Venice Film Festival, actors were already making their way from Italy across multiple timezones to Ontario. The Toronto International Film Festival kicked off very fashionably and throughout the duration hasn’t stopped. Natalie Portman set the bar high attending the opening festivities in a Dior Couture floral mini dress and the hits kept on coming. The Martian’s star-studded cast on the red carpet including Kate Mara in a red A.L.C. jumpsuit, Matt Damon in head-to-toe black, and Jessica Chastain in a Lanvin LBD were all dressed to the nines. Sandra Bullock turned heads — twice! — in a pink jumpsuit and black David Koma midi. But so far Elizabeth Olsen, stylish sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, has stood out as the sartorial winner wearing trends straight off the runway from big bell sleeves to a dress over pants. For a celebrity on the festival circuit, all of these things are just part of another day on the job, but for journalists like me, it’s been a rare opportunity to see what it’s like on the other side of the velvet rope. Some lounges offer expensive designer gowns celebrities can wear to galas, vacations to help you unwind after the festival and a slew of beauty treatments.
If it’s OK for Imogen Poots to wear flats on the TIFF red carpet, it’s OK for you to wear them while attending the festival We all know how this goes: TIFF descends upon our fair city, we put on an outfit, and then, from wherever it is we happen to be standing, are immediately recruited by Harvey Weinstein to be in whatever movie he wants to win Oscars because we just look so fashionable, thank you for noticing. The first film hasn’t even screened at the 40th Toronto International Film Festival, but stars are already killing it on the red carpet. On Wednesday night, as part of an intimate TIFF “soirée,” Natalie Portman took to the stage to talk about her life and career. The 34-year-old actress, who is in town for the North American debut of her film “A Tale of Love and Darkness,” looked ethereal while walking the red carpet in a romantic floral mini dress with bell sleeves. Also in attendance at the soirée was our favourite fashionable Olympian, Tessa Virtue. The figure skater wore a black bodycon dress with cutout and fringe detailing. Elsewhere in the city, former “The O.C.” star Mischa Barton looked red hot while attending the festival’s AMBI Gala.
