I Tried Cracker Barrel's New Menu—These Are The 6 Dishes That Still Live In My Head Rent-Free
When you’re taking a road trip, a Cracker Barrel is like a homey oasis. The antiques in the dining room, the seasonal decor, and the smell of freshly baked biscuits have made Cracker Barrel a beloved destination for over 50 years.
You might be loyal to an iconic Cracker Barrel dish, like the chicken and dumplings, country fried steak, or their iconic meatloaf. But the brand has been rolling out exciting menu items that might convince you to change your order.
Our team of food experts had the chance to try 11 of Cracker Barrel’s new menu items—from sweet to savory to boozy. There’s truly something for everyone. But unless you’re traveling with your entire extended family, you may not be able to order it all.
To make your decision easier, we’ve rounded up the six best new dishes on the Cracker Barrel menu that are worth ordering. And honestly? They’re so good that it’s worth taking a road trip for these dishes alone.
Southern BBQ Ribs
These smoky, sticky ribs are everything we want. They’re slow cooked until the meat falls apart off the bone and have the same savory flavor that we love in a Thanksgiving ham. The sauce, however, is what takes these ribs to the next level. It’s sweet and sticky and acts as a perfect foil for the pork.
Pot Roast
Few meals scream comfort food like a pot roast. Cracker Barrel’s version uses prime rib roast that’s slow braised in a savory gravy until it’s perfectly fork tender. Add in some creamy mashed potatoes and you’ve got a hearty and cozy meal.
Hash Brown Casserole Shepherd’s Pie
The pot roast on its own is great, but this new menu item blew our minds. Cracker Barrel takes their pot roast and mashed potato recipes, then tops it with a cheesy griddled hash brown crust. The crispy hash brown adds another layer of texture, and the cheese? Come on now. This is the kind of menu item that everybody should order at least once.
Cinnamon Swirl French Toast
Ahead of the holiday season, Cracker Barrel is introducing this Cinnamon Swirl French Toast on October 22. This breakfast tastes like a cinnamon roll in French toast form—the bread itself is studded with cinnamon streusel and each slice is topped with cinnamon and cream cheese icings. Be forewarned: this dish is capital S Sweet. We think that all cinnamon lovers should still try it, but it might be worth sharing it with the table.
Sparkling Sugar Plum Mimosa
You can also find this mimosa gracing the Cracker Barrel menu starting on October 22, and we’ve never had a mimosa this unique. The sweet and floral flavor of stone fruit pairs really well with the sparkling wine. And if that wasn’t enough sparkle, they also add edible glitter to your glass. It’s a great way to add a festive touch to your trip to Cracker Barrel.
Creole Shrimp Skillet
If you still needed an excuse to go to Cracker Barrel, here it is: the Creole Shrimp Skillet. We loved every bite of this dish. The shrimp is swimming in a buttery garlic sauce liberally seasoned with savory spices. It’s also served with grilled Parmesan bread that’s built to soak up even more of that sauce. The only bad news: this dish won't be on Cracker Barrel menus until February 11. But we promise it's worth the wait.
