Whitney Port shares 'startling' selfie from recent IVF surgery

Whitney Port is opening up about the latest chapter in her IVF journey.

"The Hills" alum took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a candid and "startling" photo with her more than 1.4 million followers, taken before going into her egg retrieval surgery.

The 37-year-old and her husband, Tim Rosenman, who share a four-year-old son together, have previously faced three miscarriages and one chemical pregnancy.

"I know this is a little bit of a startling pic. And I’m sorry. I don’t mean to startle you. This was me right before going into my egg retrieval surgery," she captioned a selfie of herself in a hospital gown.

"We’ve been talking a lot around it but I thought I’d record two episodes where I could share all about our fertility journey in one place," she said, referencing her podcast, "With Whit."

"Sharing a lot of very personal information can be really difficult at times. Especially when it’s the result of feeling pressure. In this instance, I feel very in control of what I am putting out there as I’m choosing when and how I want to share," Port continued.

"In the episode out this week, I covered the details of the testing I did to gear myself up for IVF, how I dealt with all the hormones, what stage I’m at in IVF, and the personal and financial costs this all has."

In the episode of"With Whit," she revealed that she still feels a lot of fear around getting pregnant again, due to her previous miscarriages.

"I still deal with fear of getting pregnant again after multiple losses," she said. "But I do wanna get pregnant and I'm not going to let that fear stop me."

She revealed that if all continues to go well with the next steps of the egg retrieval process, she could be pregnant in the next "two and a half months."

"Going into it, I didn't really have to do much," she added.

In February, the reality TV star and fashion designer posted a set of selfies to Instagram along with a message to her followers about how she was feeling two days after the egg retrieval procedure.

"Pre-bloat…Two days post egg retrieval, and I feel like I swallowed Sonny, and he’s dully kicking at my ovaries," she captioned the post.

"This whole IVF thing is so crazy!" Port continued. "It’s a legit science experiment that you do a lot on yourself sometimes with a partner, both with little education and lots of emotions. It is an inevitable colossal rollercoaster. One that you wish sometimes would abruptly end, and then at others, you feel on top of the world and more vital than anyone. It’s just so crazy."
