When Celina began prepping for her wedding, she never imagined it would have any roadblocks. But that’s exactly what happened when her would-be bridesmaid ghosted her after accepting the role, only to resurface with a text on Celina’s big day.

Celina decided to share her story in a TikTok video that has since resonated with millions of viewers.

“We have been friends for a while,” Celina exclusively tells PEOPLE of the ex-bridesmaid. “I actually met her through another best friend of mine and we just all became really good friends. We would go out all the time and hang out.”

The friendship seemed solid enough that Celina wanted this woman by her side on her wedding day. She even went all out with a fancy dinner and customized bridesmaid proposal box. At first, everything seemed peachy. The friend enthusiastically accepted, and Celina didn’t sense any hesitation.

But as wedding planning kicked into high gear, things took an unexpected turn. The bridesmaid missed the dress shopping excursion, which Celina understood given her friend’s new job and move. It was when the bachelorette planning started that the woman went radio silent.

“We’re in this group chat and we start throwing out ideas,” Celina recalls. “Everyone was very collaborative and very excited, giving their two cents. But from her, there wasn’t even a thumbs up. There wasn’t a sidebar conversation.”

As the months went by, the bridesmaid was still MIA for every wedding-related event. While baffled, Celina chose to not find a replacement. “I didn’t want someone else to think they were like a second thought of mine,” she says.

When the wedding day arrived, Celina was celebrating with her friends and family when she received a text message from the bridesmaid wishing her a happy day and apologizing for avoiding her.

But after months of silence, this was too little, too late for the bride, she says. She chose not to respond, feeling the apology fell short for such a significant event in her life. “If it were my freaking 30th birthday party, I would get it. But this is my wedding … it just wasn’t good enough for me," she tells PEOPLE.

Despite Celina being down one bridesmaid, she says her wedding party was extremely supportive. "They stood by me. My bridesmaids were so incredible. All the other bridesmaids were super easy to work with and super fun. I know they were gonna enjoy every single moment," she shares.

Months later, Celina shared her experience in her now-viral TikTok, with many former brides claiming they’ve gone through the same thing. “It’s actually scary to know how common it is,” Celina marvels. “I could not believe that there are actually so many brides that have gone through this.”

While the experience was frustrating, Celina believes she and other brides shouldn’t sweat the small stuff. "We need to remember that things like this are going to happen," she notes. "Don't sweat the small stuff ... At the end of the day, we got married and it went without a hitch."

Moving forward, Celina is solely focused on enjoying newlywed life with her husband, as the two are still "very much in the honeymoon phase," according the bride.
