Anya Taylor-Joy demonstrates how to wear an oversized blazer this spring
The oversized blazer is everywhere — and for good reason. The wardrobe staple is an effective way to finish off any outfit, adding an effortless and refined touch to a look that might otherwise feel incomplete. And, while you may feel inundated by the recent deluge of big blazers, Anya Taylor-Joy just reinvigorated the timeless trend.
On Saturday, the Emmy-nominated actor continued her stylish press tour for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. For a photo call in London, Taylor-Joy turned to Maison Margiela to make a statement, wearing a head-to-toe look pulled straight from the house’s autumn/winter 2016 couture collection. This included a thick olive-green blazer — featuring wide angular lapels, double-breasted buttons and pocket flaps at the sides — cinched at the waist with an underbust corset made of green and black nylon straps and scraps of fabric. Over the corset was a leather belt with a large sculptural silver buckle at the centre.
As for the rest of the look, Taylor-Joy kept things simple by eschewing statement jewellery in favour of statement shoes: towering black platform heels with multiple thick straps and reflective silver bulb accents.
She embraced the oversized blazer once again this week en route to the Good Morning America studios in New York City. For that outing, she demonstrated how the colder-weather outerwear can still be used as a transitional piece for spring.
This involved layering a boxy, almost military-esque blazer in a stone-grey hue over her shoulders while wearing a clingy white T-shirt minidress. She continued the spring theme with her choice of footwear: a pair of slinky white stiletto sandals with thin crisscrossing ankle straps. Taylor-Joy completed the look with a bold red lip.
