Mina Starsiak Hawk Shares a 'Costco Meat Tube Hack' That Saves Over $75 on Ground Beef
The HGTV star informed her followers that Costco sells 10 lbs. of lean ground beef for $44 in stores. She then cut the tube into 2 lb. portions to freeze and use later
Mina Starsiak Hawk shared a Costco hack for “all the deal lovers, protein junkies, and good old fashion meat lovers” looking to save on ground beef.
In an Instagram video posted Aug. 13, the HGTV star revealed that Costco sells 10 lbs. of lean ground beef for $44 in stores and showed off the "meat tube" she bought for her family. Mina, 39, revealed that her husband Steve Hawk “saw this on TikTok and Instagram” before they decided to try it out for themselves.
Mina confirmed in the video that the beef they bought was 88% lean. She said to ask for the “meat tube” at Costco’s meat section in-store.
She then cut the tube into five “2 lb. chunks” and froze them. She said that the 10 lbs. of ground meat would last her and the family “probably two weeks.”
Mina then broke the prices down further and explained that the meat added up to about “$4-$5 a pound” at Costco, versus the “$8-$12 per pound” she previously paid buying ground meat at Whole Foods. That adds up to a total savings of about $75.
"The Costco Meat Tube hack y’all. 🥩," she captioned the video.
According to a TikTok user that also shared the same hack online, “you come to the local window for the meats and you tell them you want the big meat tube that’s by the kilo” since they might not always be out on the floor to buy. The “meat tube” is available to purchase at Costco’s Business Center locations as well.

Mina and Steve made headlines on Aug. 12 when they revealed that they would be transforming an Indiana lake house into their new family getaway in the upcoming Good Bones spinoff.
In a clip exclusively shared with PEOPLE, Mina revealed that the new home would be “healing [especially] for Steve because he’s lost so much,” referencing the loss of his mother, father and sister Stefanie over the last several years.
“He’s going through life the best way he can after just some really, really epic loss in a very, very short amount of time,” Mina said in the clip. “And because his time with his family was cut short, that’s really why we wanted this lake house for Jack and Charlie — really, for the long term, for the memories, for the experiences. So that’s, I think, why it’s really important to both of us.”
Good Bones' season 9 premiere, “Mina Takes the Lake,” is set to air Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV.
