In a lot of ways, being an NBA rookie is like preparing for the first day of school. You might be a little anxious and you certainly have to be prepared, as you can get your butt kicked if you're not ready. Although Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain isn't going back to college at the moment, the basketball phenom is enlisting the help of Amazon to prep for his first year in the NBA.
The former Duke standout spent one year with the Blue Devils before entering the pros. Now, he's moving to Philly and going from dorm life to living it up in the big city. To make that transition as smooth as possible, McCain did a little Prime Day shopping last week.
"I'm starting to look for more stuff in my house," McCain says. "Whether it's a couch or like, real simple things like a water filter or pillows and silk pillowcases. Just certain things like that I shopped for on Amazon Prime Day, of course."
While McCain's room tour in Amazon's "Dormz" video series wasn't actually his real dorm, he is busy trying to get his new place to fit his style equally as well. "I always love good energy and good vibes. So anything I can do to make my room like that. Crystals, journals, stuffed animals, anything to help the room feel like home."
What is the key to the perfect dorm room?
For any incoming students, McCain advised that the key to the perfect dorm is decorating your walls with things that reveal your personality and bring the room to life. "I feel like whether it's related to your music tastes, movie tastes, whatever you like. I think that always generates more room to be yourself. I think that's what you have to create, a vibe."
Squishmallows and crystal decor from Amazon helped the California native add a personal flair to his previous living space at Duke. And he's hoping to create his very own yoga room with unique accents to illuminate his new pad which, to McCain's glee, should be much larger than his old dorm.

A bigger place will also give McCain more room to pursue another hobby of his: content creation. The 76ers guard boasts over 3 million followers on his TikTok account, and he goes to Amazon for some of his necessary accessories.
"I've had a few things," he says when asked about the TikTok finds he's ordered from Amazon. "One is the little pop socket that helps you to hold your phone, a tripod obviously helps and one of the main ones is the ring lights. Those are always helpful to create the best lighting because that is one key to success for TikTok: some great lighting. But I think the tripod, ring light and just simple things to hold your phone up are very underrated when it comes to making TikToks."

McCain plans on continuing his social media stardom during the NBA season, yet he realizes his new job will have him busy enough. Of course, that highly sought-after position comes with plenty of perks, like flying private and not having to go through TSA.
Travel essentials you can't pass up
In preparation for his plethora of upcoming flights, the rookie is scoring plenty of travel essentials from Amazon. "I feel like there's so many so many travel essentials that I need and now just because we don't have to go through TSA I can bring more of my toothpaste bottles and certain things like that," he says. "I get these Incrediwear compression sleeves that I wear on the plane. It just helps create circulation—got those from Amazon."
Whether you're preparing for your first NBA game or your first day back in the halls, McCain believes Amazon is where you should shop. "Amazon just has everything that I need, no matter what it is, they will always have it," he explains. "I'm excited, just to have Amazon on my side to look at anything I need."
