Ree Drummond Says She 'Checked Zillow for Houses' Across the Street from Daughter Alex After Her Grandchild's Birth
The Pioneer Woman's daughter Alex welcomed her first child on Dec. 18
Ree Drummond is dreaming of moving closer to her first grandbaby.
Alex Drummond Scott welcomed her daughter Sofia on Dec. 19. Following the birth, Ree has been posting on The Pioneer Woman website to blog highlights from Sofia's first week-and-a-half of life.
"I got to stay in Dallas just long enough to fall hopelessly in love with her," Ree wrote. "I would be lying if I said I haven't checked Zillow for houses not only on Alex and Mauricio's street, but also on their block and actually right across the street from their house."
Ree and her husband Ladd live in Pawhuska, Okla., about five hours from Alex's house in Texas.
"It's sort of like when I return from a vacation in Vail, Colorado, and I start searching for houses to buy in Vail because I just don't want that vacation feeling to end," Ree continued.
But with her new granddaughter, the feeling is "even more profound," Ree wrote. "I don't want my time with Sofia ever to end, and though neither 'second home' scenario is very likely at all, a girl (and a grandmother) can sure dream."
The Food Network star shared her top six favorite moments with her new grandchild, including spending time with Alex and her husband Mauricio in the hospital and introducing the newest member of the family to other loved ones, like Ree's younger daughter Paige and her fiancé David.
"As is the case with most young men in their twenties, [David] hasn't had a whole lot of baby experience, so it was fun to watch him jump right in and enjoy his niece (or soon-to-be niece, if we're being technical)," she wrote. (Paige and David will tie the knot in May.)

Interacting with the baby was like "muscle memory" for Ree, who is also mom to sons Todd, Bryce and Jamar. "One thing I saw right away is that once you've had/held/raised babies, you never forget a thing," she wrote in the post. "It's been awhile since I've consistently held a baby; after all, I've been dealing with very tall teenagers and young adults for the past several years. But these hands and arms didn't miss a lick."
The celebrity cook shared that Alex's husband was Alex's biggest cheerleader when she gave birth — so much so that she wasn't even sure Alex needed to be in the room.
"Alex did great, and so did Mauricio," Ree wrote in another blog post. "We arrived in Dallas and got to see them in the hospital just as Alex was transitioning from latent to active labor, and it was so wonderful to see how much they love and support each other."
