The Significance of Planets Going Retrograde & Direct
As a heads up, there are many retrogrades in 2025! But these aren't cause for alarm. Many of them actually bring quite welcome effects. When the year begins, the expansive (and lucky) planet Jupiter is retrograde. It goes direct on Tuesday, February 4. During Jupiter retrograde, we often reevaluate what our hopes and dreams are. Then, once it's direct, we start working to make them come true. However, this is likely more associated with relaxing creativity than hard work and hustle. This is because the warrior Mars, the action planet, is retrograde when the year begins, through Sunday, February 23. Mars retrograde can lower libidos and leave us feeling less assertive than usual.
Then, shortly after, lovely Venus, which rules love, money, and beauty, is retrograde from Saturday, March 1 to Saturday, April 12. Venus retrograde isn't considered the best time for first dates or weddings. It can also lead to slow downs regarding news about money. And it's also not considered the best time to make drastic changes to your appearance such as major hair color changes or plastic surgery. You'll want to take note of the messenger Mercury retrogrades that occur in 2025. Those dates are Saturday, March 15, to Monday, April 7, Friday, July 18, to Monday, August 11, and Sunday, November 9, to Friday, November 29. Mercury retrograde isn't cause for alarm but another cosmic call to relax. Remember to communicate clearly to avoid misunderstandings. Allow extra travel time when going anywhere, and be patient with your friends if they are late. Exes tend to reappear during Mercury retrograde.
Starting on Sunday, May 4, and lasting through Monday, October 13, the transformative planet Pluto goes retrograde. Venus is direct now, and Pluto retrograde is associated with makeovers. Eclipses, which you can read more about here, are high-octane, intense cosmic occurrences associated with sudden change. It's not unusual for one to experience spiritual breakthroughs or other life-changing events during an eclipse. There are four this year: two lunar eclipses, which coincide with the full moon, and two solar eclipses, which coincide with the new moon. Because full moons mark culminations, lunar eclipses tend to bring about swift endings, which solar eclipses happen with beginnings.
They cluster in two months, March and September. The first arrives is a lunar eclipse in Virgo on Friday, March 14. Because Virgo rules the self-care-oriented 6th House, and eclipses can leave everyone feeling drained, it's important to take note of this and rest around this date. Get plenty of sleep! Then, later in March, there's a solar eclipse in Aries on Saturday, March 29. While Aries energy is quite fun, it can be intense, as are eclipses.
