A woman expecting her first child says her mother-in-law kept overstepping her boundaries when it came to the nursery, and eventually it became a major problem.

In a recent post on Reddit's “Am I the A------?,” the 26-year-old woman shared that she and her husband, 27, are expecting their first child. Now 32 weeks pregnant, the woman said that "things have been going pretty well," expect when it comes to her mother-in-law, who "has always been a bit of a nightmare."

As the couple continued to make progress with the nursery, the woman said her mother-in-law "decided to invite herself around more," and that during her visits, she would "wander into the nursery, and start rearranging things."

“Once she literally bought an IKEA bag full of stuff that she put in there," she added. But instead of making a big deal of the fact that her mother-in-law was trying to "redecorate," the woman said her comments never went much deeper than remarking, "Oh, thanks so much for the thought."

Then things escalated.

After coming around uninvited yet again, the woman said her mother-in-law criticized her for wearing sweatpants, and then "started asking me where the pillow she'd put in the crib had gone, why I'd taken out the fairy lights hanging on the wall right by it, etc."

In response, the woman said she tried to explain that she felt they were "potential safety hazards," but her mother-in-law countered by saying she knew better, since she'd already raised three children of her own.

Then the woman claimed that her mother-in-law "looked me in the eyes" and said she had doubts about her being a "good mother."

In a subsequent update, the woman said she told her husband everything — and that he was "furious" with his mom.

He agreed that he should talk to her by himself, but not before making sure he and his wife were on the same page about their boundaries.

After her husband had lunch with his mom, the woman said that he felt everything had been "sorted." A few minutes later, she even got a message from her mother-in-law, who said "she was very sorry for what she had said to me" and "that she was in the wrong."

The woman said that her mother-in-law also promised to "only visit when invited" and not to go into the nursery anymore.

Although the woman said "I'll believe it when I see it," she admitted that "at least it's a good start."

As to be expected, commenters had a lot of opinions about the saga, but pretty much everyone was happy with how things turned out.
